New Family Member

On Monday we welcomed the newest Senators fan to our family.

We picked up an 8 week old basset hound. Being a Dukes of Hazzard fan there were really only two options when naming our basset, either Rosco or Flash. After a small family vote he was named Rosco. Rosco was named after James Best character, Rosco P. Coltrane, on The Dukes of Hazzard. For those that did not watch the show, James Best had a basset hound named Flash.

Growing up I was a huge Dukes fan and always watched the show with my brothers. A few years ago my brother Shawn called me bragging that he was watching the first season on DVD. Needless to say I went out that night and bought season one too.

My collection has grown as I now own all 7 season on DVD. Even though my brother Shawn passed away last year, I still enjoy watching the DVD's with my children.

Zinicola to Syracuse, Everts to Harrisburg

Zech Zinicola

According to MiLB.com's transactions page Senators relief pitcher Zech Zinicola has been promoted to Triple-A Syracuse. Clint Everts has been promoted from High-A Potomac to fill Zinicola's roster spot.

Zinicola appeared in 17 games for the Senators this season going 1-1 with 5 saves and a 1.74 ERA. With exception of one outting he has been lights out for the Senators. This is a much deserved promotion and I wish him continued success.

Everts joins the Senators after appearing in 13 games for the P-Nats this season. He has a 3-0 record with 2 saves and a 0.90 ERA.

Desmond Returns, Alaniz to DL

From the Harrisburg Senators Press Release:

The Harrisburg Senators have announced that INF Ian Desmond has been activated from the disabled list while RHP Adrian Alaniz has been placed on the disabled list. Desmond was placed on the disabled list on April 26 with a fracture of the left hamate bone.

Desmond played in just seven games at the start of the season and was batting .346 with 1 home run and 4 RBIs. He was the then Expos third round draft choice in the 2004 draft. Desmond played in 93 games last year with Harrisburg batting .251 with 12 HR and 44 RBIs.

Alaniz is 1-3 with a 7.56 ERA in seven starts. He has struck out 21 and walked 13. The Nationals selected Adrian in the eighth round of the 2007 draft. Coming into this season, he had a career record of 17-7 with a 3.00 ERA.

My Notes:
I was in attendance on Sunday and watched Ian's return to the Senators line up. He played SS and batted 3rd, he was 1/4 with a double. I kind of lost track, but by my count he cleanly fielded and threw out 3 or 4 hitters. None of the hits Ian field were difficult, 2 were slow rollers that he had to charge and make a good throws. Overall he looked pretty good for missing almost 2 months. People that talked with him prior to the game reported him as saying he 'felt good'.
