Could not be happier for Matt! Watching him play with the Senators back in '91 is what ignited my love of the game. I have always liked baseball and grew up in Philly, going to Shibe Stadium, but there was just something about Stairs that drew me in.... followed his career though the years, but didn't get to see him play much any more... and I loved when he was signed by the Jays. It seemed so right... and although the Phils were always "my" National league team, I thought it stupid of JP to trade him... but I all ready bought tix to the O's/Jays to see him play and he'd be in Philly, so I had my reasons! I wanted my granddaughters first game to be a Matt Stairs game. I'm just thrilled that the city seems to love him as much as they do, and they really do love him. He may only be a Philly since Aug 28th, but it seems the post game interview has so endeared him into the hearts of those brutal Philadelphia fans... he aims for the fences... that's all you'll hear. Maybe they finally see what some of us have seen all along. God Bless Matt Stairs... and thanks Matty!
Jax,
Thanks for sharing your story. Stairs is a good guy who deserved to win a championship before he retires (the reason why the Jays traded him to Philly). Everyone who followed the 1991 team probably has a Matt Stairs story and I'm hoping they stop by and share it here.
