2008 Offensive Player of the Year

This award goes to the 2008 Harrisburg Senators Offensive Player of the Year.

Things I considered when choosing my Offensive Player of the Year: Average, power, runs scored, RBI’s, stolen bases, things that happen that don’t make the stat book (running bases, sac bunts, unselfish thing to help the team win). It was also based solely on their performance while in Harrisburg.

The case could be made for several players to win this award. Ofilio Castro lead the team in doubles while batting .277 but only had 4 HR’s and 37 RBI’s in 108 games. Mike Daniel had a great first half and look like a sure bet to win this until he fell apart in the second half. Still Daniel finished with 14 HR’s and, team leading 61 runs scored, 56 RBI’s and 134 games played. Luke Montz was on fire then was promoted. Before Montz was promoted he was hitting .283 with 14 HR’s and 53 RBI’s in only 63 games. Roger Bernadina was consistent while he was here hitting .323 while leading the team in triples (7) and stolen bases (26) in only 73 games played. Marvin Lowrance played well but was only here 1/3 of the season. Lowrance finished the season playing in 47 games for Harrisburg batting .286, 8 HR’s, 24 RBI’s and 27 Runs scored. If he suited up for another 30 games and continued putting up the same stats he might have won.

Picking someone for this award was difficult due to all the player moves. 2008 Harrisburg Senators Offensive Player of the Year is…..Roger Bernadina. It’s hard to ignore the numbers he put up while in Harrisburg. He didn’t hit a ton of HR’s but he did all the things needed to help the team win. He played a vital role in the Senators first half success. When he left the team started to lose more frequently.

Congratulations to Roger Bernadina.
