The Senators continue to show that they are more than a hitting team as the pitching staff held Trenton in check last evening. Harrisburg won the opening game of the series 3-1 (Box Score).
Despite registering only 4 hits they managed to score 3 runs. The Senators were held hitless until Javi Herrera singled in the 6th inning. Ian Desmond attempted a sac bunt-but that failed to advance the runner and Herrera was thrown out at 2nd. Roger Bernadina doubled scoring Desmond from first. Then Bernadina scored on a fielding error by Cody Ehlers. The other Senator run came in the 9th inning when Andrew LeFave hit a sac-fly to right field scoring Justin Maxwell from 3rd.
The story of the game was a strong pitching performance by Harrisburg. Senators’ starter, Shairon Martis, pitched 5.1 innings, allowing 4 hits and 1 run, while striking out 6. Tim Bittner, Levale Speigner, Arnie Munoz combined to pitch 3.2 innings, 1 hit, no run in relief of Martis.
