Kory Casto and Michael O’Connor did not make the Nat’s roster out of spring training. Not really a surprise considering they both struggled this spring.
The big surprise is that both Casto and O’Connor cleared waivers and will report to Triple-A Syracuse to start the season. I think most Nat’s fans were in agreement that one or both would be picked passing through waivers.
Both deserve a long look at the big league level. O’Connor will probably see time with the Nat’s in 09 but I’m not sure that Casto will get the long look with the Nationals.
Good luck this season to both players.
Also, Chico Harlan, with the Washington Post, wrote a really good article on Kory Casto’s fight to make the Nationals team this spring. I highly recommend reading it when you have time: Out of Options, Casto Is Fighting for Roster Spot With Nats
