Following the Rule 5 Draft

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

In the MLB portion of the Rule 5 Draft the Nationals selected right handed relief pitcher Terrell Young from the Reds orgainization. A summary on Young from Jonathan Mayo at MLBlogs: Hot Stove Young was a 10th round pick in the 2004 draft. He's got a big arm who had a very good second half in 2008. He's very athletic and competitive on the mound and has three above-average pitches.

By rule, the Nationals must keep Young on their 25-man roster through the entire 2009 season to be able to keep him. He could also be traded. Which is a likely possibility.

None of the Nationals players were taken in the MLB portion of the draft.

Triple-A portion of the draft
The Nats added White Sox outfielder Ricardo Nanita. He does not need to stay on the Nationals Triple-A roster for the Nats to keep him. Nanita was Selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 14th round of the 2003 First-Year Player Draft. He is currently batting .314 in the Dominican Winter League. He played the 2008 season at the Double-A level where he hit .286, 9 Home runs and 14 stolen bases.

Nationals lost RHP Josh Perrault to Baltimore. Perrault played parts of the past two seasaon for the Harrisburg Senators..

From the Double-A portion of the draft
The Nats did not take or lose anyone.
