Castro & Baez Suspended....

Ofilio Castro - Harrisburg Senators

The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced today that two Washington Nationals Minor League players, outfielder Edgardo Baez and shortstop Ofilio Castro (pictured above), have received 50-game suspensions after each tested positive for an amphetamine, a performance-enhancing substance, in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

Francisco Plasencia joins the Senators from Potomac, to take the spot of Baez, where he was batting .291 with 10hr and 48rbi in 91 games. No one was named as a replacement for Castro yet (chances are Michael Martinez will be promoted).

With the way PED's and baseball dont mix nowadays, that was kind of stupid for them to get busted on that stuff.

That being said, I hope that doesn't ruin their carrers, and they can still try to continue on the road to the majors.

For more than a year I've had several conversations with Castro and his girlfriend. Gave them several game photos of him. I find it really hard to believe that he 'used'. Having watched him play the past few seasons he has ALWAYS played hard and gave 110% each game. I'm still in shock. I wish him and his family well and hope he gets a chance to play next season.

If I'm not mistaken both Castro and Baez contracts are up.

Ouch. That just makes it worse for them.

If they don't have the look, then I can bet you anything that it was some kind of supplement that had some banned ingredient or such. Not that its an excuse to let them off, players have got to know to watch what they are putting into them, especially since any ballplayer that is caught is 99 times out of 100, gonna get vilified.

I am still in shock about both of these players!!!!!!!!!!

These two would have been among the last two players on the team that I would have expected any drug abuse!!!!!!!!!
