Will,

What do you think about this team so far? I feel like they have the talent but for some reason they aren't getting it done. I know they won last night and hopefully that's the start of something great but I'm just wondering what you think

Verb,

My thoughts are it all came down to the Senators not having a true shortstop and the National's inability to fill the position quickly after Ian went down. The Senators were 2-5 with him (I know not great) but then lost 11 straight without him (or a true shortstop). They got Freddie Bynum and won the first 2 games he played. Even though he is 2-13 he fills the much needed on-field leadership role.

You're right they have talent. The biggest issue so far is leaving way to many runners on base. Pithcing, while not great, was keeping the team in 1 or 2 run games but the hitting wasn't coming through.

At some point they will start to hit but it was getting scary during that 12 game losing streak. Some players are starting to hit now that struggled early are Bill Rhinehart, Leonard Davis, and Ofilio Castro.

It was back to the basics as The team had a practice early in the day on Saturday going over all the basic stuff (hitting the cut off, turning double plays, where players need to be in certain situations, pick off moves,...you name it they probably covered it).

It's a long season and they have plenty of time to rebound but they sure dug a nice hole for themselves.
