Opener Suspended Due to Rain

What a start to the 2008 season. The start time temp was 44 degrees but it felt much colder on the island due to the windy conditions. Then it started raining in the 4th inning, the temps dipped below to 39 degrees and the wind kicked up.

At this point I knew it was time for me to leave, I couldn’t keep my finger on the shutter button to take pictures. Dispite the wet/cold conditions and poor lighting, I managed to take a few memorable photos from opening night. I plan on posting them tonight or Saturday.

The game was suspended in the bottom of the 10th inning due to rain/wet field conditions. At that time the game was tied 5-5. It is scheduled to resume Friday at 5:05 with Akron coming to bat. Friday’s regularly scheduled game will start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the suspended game.

The suspended game as well as the regularly scheduled game for tonight could be in jeopardy due to expected rain fall today. (Weather Underground.com)

Game Recap (Box Score)

I managed to stay until the 5th inning. I saw two at-bats by Nationals prospect Justin Maxwell. The first AB he grounded into a fielder’s choice and then was picked off trying to steal second. The second was a line drive homerun. As of the 10th inning he was 1/3, 3RBI’s and a walk.

Ian Desmond’s approach at the plate looked much better then it did in 2006 which helped him collect 2 hit (although he managed to strikeout 3 times).

Up Next:
Friday's game is scheduled to see two pitching prospects faceoff, Senators-RHP Shairon Martis vs. Aeros-LHP David Huff.

The next game I plan on attending is Sunday, but I will be listening to the game and posting box scores and game reports.

Around the EL:
Portland beat New Britain 3-0
Connecut beat New Hampshire 3-2
Reading beat Altoona 8-3 (Dorta started at 3B and was 0-3)
Binghamton beat Trenton 2-0 (Manriques 0-3)
Erie and Bowie was rained out
